B Models  (fixed, yet adjustable neck)

The B models are available in four different body sizes and different scale lengths with as Acoustics or Slim Body Electrics. The Acoustics feature the unique Brunner Adjustable Neck Connection and the Electrics have a more traditional, through the body bolt-on connection. All guitars are built according to the customer’s requirements for tonal qualities, playing style and of course aesthetics. With each batch of custom orders we’re building a few extras to always have some guitars available for people who can’t wait for the usual 6-12 months delivery time.

Brunner Adjustable Neck Connection

There are several factors that can affect the playability of a guitar in general. One of the most common issues is the “action” becoming too high over time (distance between strings and frets). This is mainly caused by the constant tension on the guitar which makes the top raise up and makes the neck bend forward over time. An all solid acoustic guitar is also constantly exposed to climate and humidity changes which cause the woods to either slightly expand or shrink. These slight changes in the wood also affect the playability substantially. Within a certain range the action can be lowered or raised by correcting the truss rod in the neck (about 0.3mm forward bow is perfect) and the bridge saddle can also be lowered or raised by sanding it lower or shimming it up accordingly. However, in many places the humidity changes are quite significant between winter and summer and so you may end up resetting your bridge saddle and truss rod every few months.

In the worst case, a neck joint needs to be reset in order to set up the guitar properly again, which is a major operation on a glued traditional dove-tail neck joint.

To take a solid wood guitar totally climate proof you won’t get around an adjustable neck connection. In connection with the unique ASTHA Guitars project in India I’ve been developing a new adjustable neck connection which I also offer on my guitars ever since. This unique connection offers the following advantages:

  • super easy string action change by adjusting the neck angle with an 4mm Alen key (180° turn raises or lower the action by about 1.5mm at the 12 fret)
  • big enough connecting surface between body and neck (not only linear) for a good vibration transfer
  • solid neck right up to the 20th fret
  • two-way truss rod on the full fret board length (not only to the heel)
  • comfortable access to the higher frets because of the missing heel
  • no string compensation changes!
  • the neck can also be removed for traveling to pack-up the guitar in a hardshell suitcase
